Empathic Communication and its Benefits– a small online course through essay
Connecting to someone on a deeper level is worthwhile. It takes a chance to express ourselves authentically to one another. Empathy is a natural human quality, yet buried under layers of unrest in our emotions. I would consider Empathic communication a learned skill and Empathy a vital need, more and more because we fumble for the right words, leaving a burning gap in our complex human hearts. Wouldn’t it be great to learn how empathy can really fill you up, even when you’re fired up?
Empathy is feeling the other deeply, as one in the same, and feeling the desire to alleviate the suffering of the other. Empathy is an action. Connected to the compassionate. Bringing more hope back into your life and the world. Imagine if you were able to relate to someone as if they were your mirror. They could understand what you’re going through, reflect back to you what you are truly feeling, teach you the importance of your needs, and help you feel complete joy and fellowship for the sharing and the release. Learning not only peaceful words, but how words connect us or destruct us, is in the language you choose to speak from and can transform your Life by helping you clarify your most honest choices, based on the results of the harmonious cooperation around you.
Based on the Nonviolent Communication model by Marshall Rosenberg, this course is a preliminary breakdown of how to approach practicing NVC through developing listening skills and tuning into empathy as a way to live and communicate. The essays are a teaching tool of ideas that you can toy with, or not. Many of the ideas are of my own formation from my schooling as a counselor and practicing therapist and group facilitator. Marshall is definitely the seminal wake up to NVC as a non-traditional paradigm shifting way of relating person to person.
